Piano Competition Gala Concert, Jan. 2:
"Martha Argerich and Members of the Jury”
The 11th Bösendorfer and Yamaha USASU International Piano Competition opening gala piano recital will feature legendary pianist, Martha Argerich, who will be joined by members of the jury for an exciting music program. They will play solo pieces as well as works for one piano, four-hands, which Argerich will perform with competition director and ASU piano faculty member, Baruch Meir.
In 1957, at the age of 16, Argerich won two prestigious competitions: the Geneva International Music Competition and the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition. In 1965, she won the Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw and has since been considered one of the greatest pianists of our time. Argerich has been the recipient of many honors and prizes, including three Grammy Awards. In 2016, Argerich received a Kennedy Center Honor from President Barack Obama, recognizing her significant contributions to the arts.
Argerich will be joined by pianists Sara Davis Buechner, Inna Faliks, Robert Hamilton and Baruch Meir.
